Green card for EB-2?

I work for a big corporate, and my labor certification is in process. I saw the wait time for my origin is 'C' (Current) - ie I dont have to wait to apply I-485. How long does it take (fastest, average) for me to get green card? (get my labor certification, get my I-485)

If your priority date is current accordingly to the Visa Bulletin, then it could take up to one year (depending on where in the USA you reside and how fast your security clearances will clear).

10+ yrs in telecom engineer, want to change career to software dev .NET. Is MCAD certified enough for .NET job

I graduated years back as a CS Engineer with lot of courses (C++, Java) as software design background. Start career as a Telecom Engineer with moderate coding involvement, but gradually shifted to zero coding. I would like to get back to software development and possible change career to IT instead of staying in Telecom. I did started taking some Microsoft development courses, and will try to have MCAD/MSCD certification. I'm kinda wondering, just a certification without an IT experiences will be enough to land me a job in VB/C# .NET software development world?

Microsoft recommends that you have a certain period of experience in .NET before getting certified. However, you can get certified without the actual experience.





As for getting hired, that depends on the organisation and your level of knowledge.





I do not recommend that you take the last exam: Analysing requirements(I think its 70-300 as I recall ) before you work in development in a software company for at least 2 years. Stick with the MCAD for the time being.

Reply:Its more than enough. Try to focus more on C# since thats the language of choice most companies are looking for in .NET these days.

To be hired as a Windows programmer, what programming languages do I need to know?

I have a B.S. degree in Computer Science from several years ago, but no real work experience in programming for MS Windows.


I am taking a certification class in Visual Basic .NET, and will be taking several more in .NET ADO, .NET ASP, and SQL Server 2000. I have some experience in C/C++, but not for Windows programming. Do most companies expect me to know ALL of Windows programming? Because .NET insulates you from having to know the Microsoft Foundation Classes (MFC), or even the Win 32 API. Are companies expecting me to know Visual C++ or Visual C#? I guess it depends on the company, but I'm looking for answers from people who have worked in a Windows programing environment. Thank you so much.

It depends on where you're hired. Most companies doing Win32 application development are using .Net, or C++ for really complicated apps. If you're writing Windows applications, bet on using .Net and a language like VB or C#. MFC isn't used that much anymore, and in fact .Net is really a better replacement for it.





Companies would expect you to know how to do things with Windows programs, usually program familiar easy to use features (nice looking lists and grids, drag and drop, etc...).





Most companies are doing web development these days, not so much Windows applications. If you want to focus on Windows, I can't stress how important learning the Windows API (the traditional C API). All Windows programming frameworks are based on this, and knowing the low level functionality is extremely helpful in learning how the OS works.

Im doing a project using SQL server 2000 and .NET 2003 (C#)





and i have this irritating problem :





In one of the tables, there is a column (Certification Type) which is a foreign key from Certifications table





The CertificationsType column is an Integer ... but i dont want the user to get to choose numbers from the Certification Type ComboBox , i want instead strings to appear in the combo box....





To sum up : I have a combobox that is supposed to carry int values, but i want instead strings to appear (and each string would refrence to a corresponding int value).

i came up with this in mins, you'll need to make it error proof...


make an arraylist in your form


ArrayList Certification = new ArrayList();


then populate your combobox with the strings values, and fill your array as follows


Certification.Add(myCertificationIndex...


Certification.Add(CertificationIndex1_...


Certification.Add(myCertificationIndex...


Certification.Add(CertificationIndex2_...


and so on





optional:


iterate through your arraylist and fill the combobox with the strings values,


for (int i = 0; i %26lt; Certification.Count; ++i)


this.comboBox1.Items.Add(Certification [++i]);





now every time an item is selected in the combobox, you'll get the associated certificate index:

For those of you that know anything about FMLA and maternity leave!!?

I’m going to be taking maternity leave in June of next year. I talked with my HR at my work about what maternity leave I have available to me. Apparently we use our short term disability for maternity leave so that we get paid. I get 6 weeks paid maternity leave, 8 weeks if it is a c-section. She said it also goes against my FMLA time. I asked if I could take the extra 6 weeks I’d have available from FMLA but unpaid of course. She told me that I could not take more than my 6 or 8 weeks off unless I had medical certification. Now I’ve been on the website for FMLA and I’ve also read what we have in our employee handbook at work and NO WHERE does it say we can’t take the rest of our FMLA unless we have medical certification. It does say you need medical certification if you are taking off due to the illness of a family member, but it says nothing of the sort for Maternity. She says that it should and that’s the policy. Does anyone know about this?? I was under the impression that as long as I was eligible for FMLA that they MUST allow me to take my whole 12 weeks off if I want it?? Any thoughts would be very appreciated!!

For those of you that know anything about FMLA and maternity leave!!?
The reason you get the 6 or 8 weeks in the first place is because of maternity disability. The key word here is disability. If you have dr certification that your disability is longer that the 6 or 8 weeks, they have to hold your position and count it against your FMLA, unless to do so would cause undue hardship on the company(just another clause, don't worry about it). If you live in CA, you can take an additional 6 weeks of Paid Family Leave. I would check the law in your state and you can always call these government agencies. They are very helpful to the employee, usually and will give it to you straight.

You should have no problem getting a doctor to attest to the birth of your child which is all that's really necessary.


It is a very simple record keeping requirement.

Reply:Well, it appears the company is trying to prevent its employees from tag-teaming medical and FMLA.





As everything, there are pluses and minuses. I think it is laudable the company is trying to give you payed leave. They really don't have to do that if your are exercising your FMLA rights.





However, if you want the whole 12 weeks, you probably need to get all of them under the FMLA, unpaid, of course. You'll probably have to send the company something in writing telling them that you are electing your 12 weeks under the FMLA.





Even though it is laudable they are trying to give you paid time off, they are using it as a device to get you back sooner. Because of the cost to the company, they would rather have you gone only 6 or 8 weeks, rather than 12. All that time, they either have to split your work among current employees, or hire temp help to pick up your load.

Reply:Ummm... a bank wouldn't send an e-mail like this. They would send a physical letter, probably with multiple signatures, including the president or CFO, considering the amount of money involved.





So, what are you doing? Trying to improve your Nigerian 419 scam e-mail?

Normally a bank should have a budget for English editing.


I only know of a/c meaning air conditioning.

You need, for your own/bank's protection spell out the


actual total amount in addition to entering it numerically and add the appropriate decimals ie is it 350,000.00USD or 35,000.00USD?
