Need help! No silly answers please (for 2 points)! I await a good advise regarding this. Thanks!?

I would like to learn some software package/application/language. Please guide me which one I should choose. I am good in C %26amp; C++ which didn't help me to get a job in IT field as I am not a BE/Btech/MCA degree holder. I hold a MSc Mathematics degree.

I cleared brainbeanch certification quite few times in C programming. Its few years back but I still didn't loose touch in that. I have a system at my home and would like to learn the package/application/language by myself as I did for C/C++. Also I don't like to waste money as I am in a completely different field and would like to add qualifications. Also I don't want to loose this talent.

What do you feel about learning "JAVA".

Need help! No silly answers please (for 2 points)! I await a good advise regarding this. Thanks!?
I would suggest you become an ace in the C and C++. Check out the pointers in C. Dont jump into JAVA now. I would not suggest you this. This is because you already holding a good Mathematics degree and you have a good knowledge in C and c++.

Get going with sharpening your skills in C and C++. There are loads of opportunities for people who are having the mathematics back ground with the right programming skills. Check out!

Reply:its a nice thing to learn java and yes do learn J2EE as thats the one that is majorly in demand dese days. Learning Oracle and PL/SQL would be an added advantage.

All the best.
Reply:hey java is a nice program and it is also fun learning it but first be thorough in whatever u know so u better study c and cpp every bit and moreover u are msc maths so why don't u try tally and be a pro in that and get in to field related to that!if u are determined to enter only in to the it field try java but get a certificate from a institution,do a correspondance course from a reputed institute!i wish u all the best!
Reply:ya , its good to learn java,dotnet
Reply:I really like java because it runs on anything(solaris, windows, linux). I think it's being used a lot for interfaces. I have seen it used to create games on the internet. Might consider making a game with java and posting or selling it on line. Also if you need experience you might want to get involved with open source projects. This way you can get experience and maybe network to find a job. C and C++ are still being used all over the place so you might want to keep those skill current. Problem these days is so much of the work is going over sea's. Also if you have money or a job that will pay for it maybe you should go back to school for programing if you want to do it.
Reply:Hey as you have mentioned that you know C/C++ so it would be better if you go for Dot Net like ASP.Net as many of the applications that are running on Microsoft platform gets converted or upgraded.

But as others have advised that JAVA will be good. But the only issue is Java market is saturated with very well qualified professionals so there is a lot of competition. Where as Dot Net is pretty new in the market.

But focus on any technology which web based technology
